Private Lesson Subsidization
Applied lessons at private colleges typically add a significant financial burden to the cost of a college education for a music major, but not at Edgewood! We are proud to provide top-quality applied lessons at a very minimal cost. Students who elect to take advantage of the subsidized lesson program typically donate one hour of work per week in exchange for subsidization of their private lesson, with such simple jobs as handing out programs at concerts or setting up for a rehearsal. For more information contact Blake Walter at bwalter@edgewood.edu.

EDGEWOOD CHAMBER ORCHESTRA
CONCERTO COMPETITION 2011
  1. Auditions will be held Thursday, November 17, 2011, from 3:00 until 5:00 in the St. Joseph Chapel.  Those wishing to audition should be available for that entire block of time.

  2. Works should be pre-approved by the conductor of the Edgewood Chamber Orchestra by November 1, 2011.

  3. After filling out an audition form, students should submit an orchestral score and recording, if necessary, to aid in the approval process.  The Edgewood Chamber Orchestra has limited instrumentation, and therefore, works that use large instrumentations will most likely not be approved.  The size of the Orchestra is 2 fl, 2 ob, 2 cl, 2 bsn, 2 hn, 2 trpt, timpani, and strings.  Works for orchestra of this size with additional instruments (harp, piano, extra percussion, etc) will certainly be considered.

  4. Students must provide accurate timings for their works.

  5. Combinations of shorter works (arias, etc) are allowed, as long as they do not exceed the time limit.

  6.  Works that are not in the public domain will be approved only if the rental costs are reasonable, and the works are readily available.

  7. Works should be a maximum of 10-12 minutes in duration.

  8. Works must be memorized, for both audition and performance.

  9. The works are to be solo works (arias, concertos, etc) not ensemble works.

  10. Auditions must be performed with piano accompaniment; it is the student’s responsibility to arrange for an accompanist.

  11. The order of the audition will be entirely at the discretion of the conductor.

  12. The judges will choose up to 30 minutes of concerted music to be performed on the concert, and reserve the right to choose less music, or none, if they feel the performance level is not sufficiently high.

  13. The performance(s) will take place on one of the two spring 2012 Edgewood Chamber Orchestra performance dates.(The date chosen and program order shall be entirely at the discretion of the conductor and may not be altered in any way.

  14.  Performers will be available for rehearsal with the orchestra during the regularly scheduled rehearsal times on the Saturday and Friday previous to the performance, and the Saturday a week prior to the performance.

  15. For more information about the concerto competition, please contact Blake Walter, bwalter@edgewood.edu.
